BENNIMIX® complementary baby food is designed to boost the nutrition of children from 6 to 24 months of age. It is not a replacement for breast milk, we encourage all the mums who use our baby food to keep breast-feeding until their child is 24 months. BENNIMIX® is a stepping-stone on the road to good nutrition for children, forming a bridge between breast-feeding and ‘family food’. BENNIMIX® has a stable and reasonably long shelf life of 1 year (when stored in a clean, dry environment) because we use good quality, well-prepared ingredients, and because we don’t include milk into our formulation. Our hygienic, foil-sealed packaging means that BENNIMIX® stays fresh and families can be confident in feeding it to their babies.
BENNIMIX® isn’t just for children: adults enjoy it also! It is also ideal for the sick and infirm, for whom BENNIMIX can aid recovery from illness with its easy to swallow formulation. It can also be used for school feeding programmes, and as take home rations from health clinics as an incentive for attendance at antenatal and post-natal clinics. BENNIMIX® can even be used in food for work programmes with communities – it really builds you up after a long day’s work!
OUR INGREDIENTS
BENNIMIX® is created using a combination of highly nutritious, natural ingredients. These are benni (the Sierra Leonean name for sesame), consho beans (pigeon peas), rice and sugar. We believe that food should be as natural as possible, and that this is especially so for babies and young infants. BENNIMIX® is created using four crops, all locally grown by smallholder farmers in Sierra Leone where no fertilizers / insecticides are used. No preservatives and colour are added in the preparation of BENNIMIX®
Although many imported complementary foods have been tested on the Sierra Leonean market, many have not had the desired impact on child growth. BENNIMIX® has excellent nutritional values and is well-tolerated by infants and children alike. Our nutritional values have been recently assayed in *China and every 100 gm of BENNIMIX® contain 478 Kcals of energy, 72 gm of carbohydrates, 14gm of protein and 16 gms of total fat. All the essential amino acids are present in BENNIMIX® and it is also rich in minerals especially iron and zinc. These nutrients are crucial for infants and young children in the developing world. A well-nourished infant can recover faster from common illnesses such as malaria, diarrhoea and respiratory infections. Good nutrition maintained during illnesses helps children to grow and ward off further infections. BENNIMIX® provides a good balance of protein, fat, carbohydrates and minerals. The high fat content of sesame gives increased calorific content and means that parents do not need to add oil to the mixture when cooking it as they should when using some alternatives.
